Birds Are Amazing

Birds are the most fascinating, loved, cherished and cute creation of God which brings life into our world by flying around and filling in colors like rainbow in the sky enhancing its beauty. Birds are truly beautiful creatures, and are all around us, roosting and nesting on our buildings and feeding in our gardens and refuse dumps. They are easy to find and fun to observe. Birds are probably the most beloved group of wild animals on the planet. Their ubiquitous presence, colorful form, intelligent actions and cheeky mannerisms endear them to us all.

Some information about amazing birds are:

The heaviest bird ever was probably the extinct Dromornis stirtoni from Australia. This flightless giant lived between 1 and 15 million years ago and probably stood nearly 3m/10ft tall and weighed in at a massive 500kg/1100lb,

The tallest bird was Dinornus maximus, a Giant Moa from New Zealand. Another extinct bird from South America has the record for largest flying bird and longest wingspan. The Giant Teratorn had a wingspan of at least 6M/19.5ft and could possibly have been as large as 7.5m/25ft,

Sometimes there are birds with odd-looking beaks. Numerous Black-capped Chickadees with greatly elongated and down-curved upper beaks were reported in 1998-1999 in southern Alaska. Bird beaks are much like human fingernails, soft structures that actually grow at a constant rate all the time. Many factors have been implicated in causing birds' beaks to grow abnormally, including structural damage to the beak, disease, parasites, nutritional deficiencies, genetic defects, exposure to extreme heat, and exposure to environmental contaminants.

There are some bald birds for e.g. Blue Jays or Northern Cardinals. Most bald bird reports occur in summer and fall, which are typical molting times, when birds go through a normal replacement of feathers.

According to research, hummingbirds eat up to 14 times their own body weight in nectar everyday. In order to accomplish this amazing feat, hummingbirds' bills and tongues have evolved into incredibly efficient feeding tools.

The biggest living bird is the North American ostrich. It weighs up to 345 lb and has a height of up to 9 ft. I would not want to be on that bird's enemy list! The huge animal can be found south of the Atlas Mountains from upper Senegal and Niger across to the Sudan and central Ethiopia.
